Storybook Trail: Sunday June 8 to Saturday June 21, Van Horne Trail. Introduce your children to the joy of reading outside with a visit to the Van Horne walking trail, and the children’s book that explains the importance of respecting planet Earth. The book begins at the Prince of Wales end of the Van Horne Trail.

Early Morning Bird Walk: Saturday June 14, at 7:00am at Kingsbrae Garden. Enjoy identifying the birds and butterflies that are active in Kingsbrae Garden in the early morning. Led by well known birder Todd Watts. Meet at 7:00 am in the parking lot to Kingsbrae Garden.

World Sea Turtle Day: Saturday June 14 and Sunday June 15. Various activities at the Huntsman Discovery Aquarium from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. Regular Admission prices apply.

Kayak Tours of Navy Island: Saturday June 14 and Sunday June 15. Provided by In Step Adventures.

What a great opportunity to explore the Navy Island Nature Preserve! 2-hour bookable time slots are available on both Saturday and Sunday at 8:30 AM, 11:00 AM, 1:30 PM, and 4:00 PM. Guests will have the option of either a paddle around the island or a ‘to/from the island’ paddle combined with a guided hike. Paddling will begin at the boat ramp at the bottom of Princess Royal St. Prices begin at $10/child , $15/adult and $40/foursome for a 2-hour adventure!

Citizen Science Activity MIMIC: Saturday June 14, 10:00am-noon. Come to the St. Andrews wharf at 10 am to learn how to identify invasive species and become a Citizen Scientist. St. Andrews is the first location outside the US to set up a Marine Invader Monitoring and Information Collaborative (MIMIC) station. Come and learn all about it!

Solar Energy & Electric Vehicles: Keys to a Climate- and Money-Saving Lifestyle: Saturday June 14, 3:00 – 5:00 pm at the Huntsman Aquarium Theatre. Energy makes our world work – but the reality of climate change is making it clear that we need to transition to clean, renewable energy as quickly as possible.  Speaker, writer and sustainability consultant Carl Duivenvoorden will provide a quick climate update, and then share his extensive experience with solar energy and electric vehicles.  (Spoiler alert: getting to net zero is easier than you think!)”

Rock Encounters: Sunday June 15, 2:00 pm at Kingsbrae Garden. Geologist James Whitehead will unpack the fascinating history of rocks from World-wide locations. You won’t believe the millions of years represented by these rocks! Stone Carver Ken Waiwood will dazzle you with the artworks created from Alabaster from various locations, and the raw rocks from which they emerged.

Launch of the Earth Trail: Friday June 20 at 2:00pm at the Van Horne Trail by the Langmaid Park entrance. Come and experience the history of our planet Earth over the last 4 Billion years through words and music. Bring your phone to access the QR codes and unleash this thrilling history.

Green Shores Education Session: Friday June 20 from 9:00am-4:00pm. Green Shores Level 1 training from St. Mary’s University introduces participants to basic shoreline ecosystem principles and management practices, with emphasis on the purpose and application of the Green Shores rating systems. Topics covered include an overview of shoreline ecology including threats and improvements, an overview of shoreline governance, and an introduction to the Green Shores program. The workshop includes a visit to a local shoreline to practice implementing key concepts and put new learning into practice. Lunch included.
