EARTHFest

Saint Andrews, New Brunswick

Our Mission is to celebrate planet Earth, through activities that enrich, educate and generate understanding of the mutual interdependence between humans and Earth. With this increased understanding, to be inspired to take individual and collective action to protect Earth’s biodiversity, unique eco systems and climate, for future generations of all living beings.

EARTHFest in Saint Andrews began in 2022 as a one day festival honouring planet Earth. The first EARTHFest was held at Sunbury Shores Arts and Nature Centre, and included activities for both students and adults. Previous EARTHFest Events – EARTHFest

Then in 2023 the festival moved to the beautiful Ministers Island, to capture the essence of the land, sea and sky. It remained a one-day festival on Ministers Island for two years, until 2025 when it expanded to include other organizations throughout the Saint Andrews region, and grew to include seven days of programming. The requirement to reconnect us to our planet Earth has never been greater. We don’t need to be reminded of the litany of issues facing our planet and all her creatures including ourselves. The root cause of these issues is a belief among most humans that we are superior to all other living beings, and that Earth is a gift of resources for humans to deplete. This is a human focused belief. This belief and our subsequent actions need to shift towards a focus on Mother Earth, with humans understanding that we are interdependent with all other living beings. This is the belief that guided the first inhabitants of our lands and the one to which we must return. That change needs to happen now. As film maker David Attenborough pleads, “we need a new relationship between humanity and nature, one where we realize that for our own species to thrive, we require the natural world to also thrive.”

Genesis of EARTHFest:

The book “Imagination is the Key: to Unlock the Environmental Crisis” written by Chris Sunderland Imagination is the key : -to unlock the environmental crisis eBook : Sunderland, Chris: Amazon.co.uk: Books puts forward the premise that cultural change, starting at a local level, could alter human’s perception of our relationship to our Planet Earth. In a nutshell, the climate/environmental crisis is a symptom of a greater issue: humans believing that we are apart and superior, as opposed to part of and dependent on Earth. Earth-centric festivals can be the key to altering our relationship to our planet – trying to help humanity move from a human centered culture to one that is Earth centered and therefore focused on our mutual interdependence and shared survival.
